The advantage of individual interfaces is that they are <strong>optimally adapted to the needs of the company<\/strong> and thus achieve a high degree of automation.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>However, a new development also brings with it a whole series of disadvantages:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>High development costs<\/strong><br\/>An interface always connects two different software systems. It is therefore essential to <strong>involve both the provider of the ERP solution and the provider of the third-party system<\/strong> when programming. Otherwise, there is a risk that the two systems will work at cross purposes. The development process is usually <strong>very time-consuming and costly<\/strong>.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Update risks<\/strong><br\/>Interfaces evolve over time &#8211; just like any other software component. How good that there is a third option for setting up links: so-called declarative integration frameworks. These can transform the communication formats into the respective target format in a semantically correct way. This is possible by declaratively mapping the individual interface data points of both communication partners. The prerequisite is usually that the data within the interface is available in a specific format &#8211; for example XML or JSON.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Companies usually pay an additional license fee for declarative integration frameworks.  <strong>However, they benefit from several advantages:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Less effort<\/strong><br\/>Customization programming is not necessary. <strong>This saves companies the time and expense<\/strong> of planning and developing individual interfaces. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Simple maintenance<\/strong><br\/>Maintenance and servicing of the integration are also possible <strong>without programming <\/strong>and without a new release of the software. ERP users can make changes to the data structure of an interface <strong>independently<\/strong>. In addition, the framework is part of the ERP solution and therefore covered by patches from the ERP manufacturer.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More flexibility<\/strong><br\/>Business users can <strong>easily change<\/strong> the configuration of an interface without involving IT. This means that the technical factors of ERP integration take a back seat, allowing <strong>processes to be designed more efficiently<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tips for successful integration<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To summarize: an integration framework is an extremely effective solution for connecting ERP and third-party systems. <strong>However, it is not always possible to use an adapter<\/strong>. For example, if the software system does not have its own programming interface, companies have to develop a solution themselves or commission one. This may be the case <strong>for in-house developments or industry-specific niche applications<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, interface frameworks reach their limits <strong>when<\/strong> <strong>exchanging particularly extensive data records<\/strong>. In this case too, a certain amount of programming is required.
