Karlsruhe, 26.06.2023 – In our fast-moving IT world, 30 years is half an eternity: in 1993, the predominant operating system was still Windows 3.1, the Internet was virtually a pilot project and the millennium bug seemed a long way off. Also in 1993, AP GmbH was founded, the predecessor company of today’s ERP specialist Asseco Solutions, which will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary in 2023. Over the decades, the company has repeatedly acted as a technological pioneer – from the early use of web technology to Industry 4.0 and state-of-the-art AI technology – and established itself as a constant on the ERP market: today, the company has more than 500 employees at over ten locations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland and Guatemala and, as a subsidiary of the global Asseco Group, is part of one of the largest software groups in Europe.
“I see two main factors behind our decades-long success story,” explains Markus Haller, CEO of Asseco Solutions. “Firstly, our technology experts have a very good sense of which new developments and trends actually have potential for our customers and how these can be used in practical ERP applications. We achieved this back in the early 2000s with our then revolutionary switch to web technology – a decisive technological leap from which we are still benefiting today, as it gives us the performance and flexibility we need to make effective use of new megatrends such as the cloud and artificial intelligence. Our customers and partners, who in so many cases have relied on us for a long time and keep approaching us with new exciting projects, ideas and requirements, are an equally key success factor. I would therefore like to thank them most sincerely for their trust and productive, collaborative partnership.”
30 years of technological innovation
Founded in 1993 as AP GmbH, the company quickly developed into a well-known provider of business software for SMEs. At the beginning of the 2000s, P2plus was the first web-based ERP solution that could be used and operated entirely in the browser by the user without software installation on the client – a major innovation at the time and still not standard in the ERP world today. Since 2007, the solution has been known on the market under its current name “APplus”. Following the takeover by the Polish Asseco Group, the company itself, together with its Austrian, Swiss, Czech and Slovakian sister companies, finally changed its name to Asseco Solutions AG. In 2016, the company released SCS, a smart service solution for Industry 4.0 scenarios, before the next technological milestone followed in 2019: Asseco Solutions acquired a majority stake in Austrian AI specialist Salesbeat, thereby acquiring extensive expert know-how in the field of artificial intelligence. With APplus 7.0, intelligent technology finally found its way into Asseco’s ERP world in 2020 – heralding a new era in the handling of business processes.
“We want to continue along this path of innovation that we have embarked on over the past thirty years in the coming decades,” adds Haller. “The optimization of business processes through to the automated execution of routine processes using AI will be established in practice on a large scale in the near future. Because in times when skilled workers are in short supply and will remain so for the foreseeable future, it is crucial to relieve existing teams and create free capacity. The ERP system will play a key role in this and in future will not only intelligently optimize individual workflows, but also the entire business process with its diverse interrelationships – including itself.
