Die Produktionsplanung und -steuerung (PPS) befasst sich mit der Steuerung, Planung und Kontrolle aller Prozesse, die bei der Waren- und Güterfertigung anfallen. Sie ist ein unverzichtbares Instrument für produzierende Unternehmen. Ihr Ziel ist es, den gesamten Produktionsablauf möglichst effizient und reibungslos zu gestalten. Dabei wird die PPS in der Regel von einem computergestützten PPS-System unterstützt. Heutzutage findet die Produktionsplanung und Produktionssteuerung mit dem ERP-System statt. Aus geschichtlicher Sicht kann sie jedoch als Vorgänger moderner ERP-Systeme betrachtet werden.
Production planning and control tasks
Produktionsplanung und -steuerung setzt sich aus zwei großen Teilbereichen zusammen. Die Aufgabe der Produktionsplanung ist die kurz- und mittelfristige Vorausplanung von Fertigungsvorgängen. Die geplanten Fertigungsaufträge werden von der Produktionssteuerung freigegeben, koordiniert und kontrolliert. Zu den Aufgabenbereichen der PPS gehören unter anderem:
- Production program planning This area of responsibility includes the creation of the company’s production program based on sales forecasts. It provides information on the quantity of goods and merchandise to be produced for each planning period and therefore determines the company’s primary requirements.
- Requirements planning The quantities of raw materials and individual parts required for the production of primary requirements are determined here. This is referred to as secondary requirements. Corresponding production orders are created on the basis of these parts lists.
- Capacity and scheduling planning In this step, the production process is roughly scheduled and it is ensured that the necessary resources, such as employees or equipment, are available. The orders are then forwarded to production control.
- Production control After the check, the production orders are released. Detailed scheduling assigns specific orders to machines, equipment and employees. During the manufacturing process, production provides information on the current status of the orders. This can be done via a production data acquisition system. Production control monitors progress and checks whether the production plan is being adhered to, for example in terms of quantities and deadlines. If there are disruptions in the process, corrective measures may need to be taken.
ERP systems with integrated PPS system
Nowadays, production control and planning is generally a functional area of modern ERPII systems that can be integrated. Production companies with short throughput and delivery times are particularly reliant on efficient coordination of order processing. This minimizes idle times and the associated costs.
Eine Software mit entsprechenden Funktionen unterstützt die Anwender dabei, den umfangreichen operativen Aufgaben gerecht zu werden, die die PPS mit sich bringt. Die Produktion als Funktionsbereich eines ERP-Systems bietet darüber hinaus die Möglichkeit, Fertigungsprozesse unternehmensübergreifend zu planen und zu steuern.
